Located on the south coast of the isle of Islay in Scotland, The Ardbeg distillery is well known for its heavily peated Islay whisky. It has claimed many awards since reopening in 1997. Two of its expressions have won World Whisky of the Year and Scotch Single Malt of the Year (The Ten Years Old, and Uigeadail) while Ardbeg Galileo won the World's Best Single Malt Whisky in the 2013 World Whiskies Awards. While Ardbeg is similar to other Islay malts it differs in that it chooses not to focus on the saltiness of the sea but instead on different aromas from spices. Also located on the south coast of the isle of Islay in Scotland Lagavulin is another of the classic heavily peated Islay whiskies. The name Lagavulin translated from Scottish Gaelic means hollow of the mill. Lagavulin was famously featured by the TV show Parks and Recreation as the drink of choice for Ron Swanson. Lagavulin's 16-year spirit has won many awards and ranked incredibly high in many international spirits ratings competitions. Lagavulin's core range consists of a 16 year old, bottled at 43% ABV and a Distiller's edition, finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. They also regularly release a 12 year old.
