As 2021 comes to an end it gives us all a chance to look back at the past year and review how it went. At CasKompare we wanted to give you a little peek at some of the insights we gleaned while taking a look at the past years popular whiskies on CasKompare. Now none of the whiskies that appear on this list will come as a surprise to the informed drinker, but they are popular for a reason, so if you haven’t tasted every whisky on this list, treat yourself for the new year and pick up a bottle. Top Searched Whisky: Ardbeg

Located on the south coast of the isle of Islay in Scotland, The Ardbeg distillery is well known for its heavily peated Islay whisky. It has claimed many awards since reopening in 1997. Two of its expressions have won World Whisky of the Year and Scotch Single Malt of the Year (The Ten Years Old, and Uigeadail) while Ardbeg Galileo won the World's Best Single Malt Whisky in the 2013 World Whiskies Awards. While Ardbeg is similar to other Islay malts it differs in that it chooses not to focus on the saltiness of the sea but instead on different aromas from spices. Ardbeg’s core range consists of the Ardbeg Ten, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan

Also located on the south coast of the isle of Islay in Scotland Lagavulin is another of the classic heavily peated Islay whiskies. The name Lagavulin translated from Scottish Gaelic means hollow of the mill. Lagavulin was famously featured by the TV show Parks and Recreation as the drink of choice for Ron Swanson. Lagavulin's 16-year spirit has won many awards and ranked incredibly high in many international spirits ratings competitions. Lagavulin's core range consists of a 16 year old, bottled at 43% ABV and a Distiller's edition, finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. They also regularly release a 12 year old.

Distilled at the Balvenie Distillery, this 14 year old expression matured initially in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum which adds a bit of sweetness and an extra warmth to the malt. The Balvenie Distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland in the town of Dufftown. Other whiskies in the Balvenie core range are its DoubleWood 12 Year Old, DoubleWood 17 Years Old, and PortWood 21 Year Old.

This Superb 18 year old is a classic speyside single malt, matured in a combination of first and second fill American oak and sherry casks. It has won two golds at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. Distilled at the Glenlivet distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland near the town of Ballindalloch. The Glenlivet brand sells the most single malt whisky in the United States of America while coming in second globally. Addition whiskies from the Glenlivet core range includes The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, The Glenlivet 12 Year Old, The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve, and The Glenlivet Archive 21 Year Old
